Upper arms are one of the most talked-about areas in my clinic—especially among women who feel let down by loose skin, no matter how fit or healthy they are.

Waving Goodbye to ‘Bingo Wings’ with Confidence

You may have spotted me on ITV2’s Olivia Attwood: The Price of Perfection, where Olivia, continues to explore the emotional truths behind cosmetic enhancements.

One topic that consistently resonates in my clinic, as well as on the show, is the issue of upper‑arm sagging, known affectionately (or not-so-affectionately!) as “bingo wings.”

Why Upper Arms Often Betray Us

Whether you’re in your 40s, 50s, or 60s, the arms tend to be a common source of frustration. You look in the mirror and see the same vibrant, energetic person you feel like—then raise your arms and that annoying jiggle doesn’t stop: bingo wings. And losing weight or hitting the gym religiously often doesn’t help—because while exercise can tone the muscles, it can’t tighten loose skin. Often the root causes are:

    • Major weight loss: Amazing achievement, but sometimes skin loses elasticity and doesn’t bounce back.
    • Natural ageing: Skin gradually loses firmness and becomes lax.
    • Genetics: Some of us are just prone to sagging arms, regardless of how fit we are.

Celebs with Stunning Arms – and Their Secrets

Many celebrity-worthy arms aren’t just from workouts, they’re also thanks to arm lift surgery, or brachioplasty. In fact, in the UK, the conversation around arm‑lift surgery is gaining traction: in 2019, around 390 brachioplasties were carried out—making it the 10th most common cosmetic surgery that year on The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPs)  audit. This is partly inspired by toned stars like Michelle Obama, Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Kelly Ripa, Jessica Biel, and First Lady Michelle Obama in particular. Michelle Obama’s arms reportedly sparked a surge of upper-arm lifts, with many women saying they “wanted arms like hers” .

Other well-known figures—Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Kelly Ripa, Jessica Biel—consistently top polls for suspension-worthy upper arms .

Brachioplasty involves surgically removing excess skin (and sometimes fat) from the upper arm. Sure, it leaves a scar from elbow to armpit, but for countless patients that scar is worth the freedom: sleeveless dresses, beach holidays, and winking goodbye across the room without self-consciousness.

Spotlight: Olivia Attwood & The Price of Perfection

Olivia Attwood, the ITV2 presenter and former Love Island star, has really opened up the cosmetic conversation in her docuseries The Price of Perfection. Newly renewed for a second season—expanding to six episodes—this show covers everything from weight loss injections to motherhood makeovers

In the latest season, Olivia puts herself through the wringer: interviewing patients, watching surgeries live, and exploring taboo areas like phenol and salmon sperm injections.

She’s also been transparent about her own cosmetic journey; boob job, chin lipo, fillers, veneers, Botox, while voicing her refusal to take shortcuts like “fat jabs”

By sharing her personal openness; yet caution when it comes to quick fixes, Olivia is bridging the gap between glamor and honest reality. She’s also set to feature fat‑loss injections and body-reshaping procedures in the new season, continuing the fearless, non-judgmental tone she’s become known for.

What Happens in an Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)

Here’s a breakdown of how an arm lift procedure works:

    • Consultation & planning: We assess the upper arm, discuss goals, and plan your contour.
    • General anaesthetic: You’re asleep, comfortable, and pain-free.
    • Discreet incision: I make a careful cut along the inside or back of the arm, from elbow to underarm.
    • Remove and reshape: Excess skin and fat are removed, then the remaining tissue is tightened for a smoother look.
    • Beautiful contour: The scar is hidden in your natural arm crease.
    • Recovery: Scar care and time will fade the line, lifting not just your arms, but your confidence.

Patients tell me over and over: the scar is a small price for waving freely, wearing sleeveless, and finally matching their inner self to their outer reflection.

Weighing the Options: Liposuction vs Arm Lift

    • Liposuction-only: Great for removing fat, but doesn’t address skin sag. Unless elastic, skin can still drape.
    • Celebrity Arms liposuction (360° HD): Claimed by some clinics to tone shoulders and arms with better definition, yet skin laxity can remain
    • Brachioplasty (arm lift): Best for both skin and fat removal. True transformation, though with a scar; ideal for those needing comprehensive contouring.

Is an Arm Lift Right for You?

    Consider brachioplasty if you:

    • Have loose or sagging skin post‑weight loss or ageing
    • Exercise, but can’t eliminate upper‑arm jiggle
    • Want freedom to wear sleeveless confidently

f you want to explore further, get in touch. We’ll explore your goals, medical history, scarring concerns, and whether an arm lift; or another approach, might be best.

I’m excited to help you discover the arm transformation—and confidence boost—you deserve!
